Halloween this year was FUN. Someday I will miss the magnified anticipation and excitement that comes with kids and holidays. For the past week, Lily would ask multiple times a day when it was going to be Halloween and what we'd be doing that day. It was great to wake up yesterday and finally have it be the big day!
We took Lily to preschool, where she enjoyed a three hour fest of trick-or-treating and playing with other friends dressed up as princesses, butterflies and fairies.
After school, some friends came over for lunch. The kids played hard enough that following a fun play-date, all three kids took a nap. I can hardly remember the last time that happened during the day. Usually it's just Noah. So that was great.
A few hours later, the sun had gone down. Brant's sister and her kids came over for a fun dinner-in-a-pumpkin. This meal is just about the only holiday tradition we have. Every year on or around Halloween, we have a casserole type dinner baked in a pumpkin. Brant had it in college once and makes sure the tradition continues every year. Hopefully next year Lily will like it :)
Following dinner we headed out for trick-or-treating. It was so fun to watch how excited the kids were. Our street was a little lame, but luckily one block over had a few more houses lit up and ready with treats :)
Today, the kids have been enjoying playing with their treasures. Hopefully the "Switch Witch" will visit our house soon this week. A friend told me about how the Switch Witch leaves a hat of toys/prizes at the house, and kids can trade ten pieces of their candy for one of her prizes. The candy is what she needs to fuel her broom. She didn't come last night, but hopefully soon.
This year, Lily was a butterfly during the day, and Princess Elsa at night, William was a rhinoceros and Noah was a pumpkin - whose costume parts became dirty and/or lost by the evening time. Yay for fun!
