Happenings

Big things are happening around here. Lily turned two and a half this past month. And with that, her mother decided to give potty training another heart-felt attempt. Lily expressed interest several months ago last spring, but her interest died away and she refused to go on the "big girl potty" for a while. Until, I realized I could use her true love (shows) to bribe her! I told her one morning that she could get a treat AND watch of a show if she went potty. It was magical... The rest of the day she got to watch five minutes of a show every time she went potty. Needless to say, that day, if she wasn't watching a show, she was sitting on her potty trying her hardest to get even a drop of pee out so she could watch some more TV. It was so funny. The potty we have plays a celebratory song whenever liquid hits the bowl. I was pretty entertained that day. We slowly weened her off of the TV reward (that only comes now with #2). Accidents still happen occasionally if we forget to remind her to go potty, but all in all she's doing pretty well. I had no idea what a thrill it could be to potty train a youngster!

William might be another story when his potty training days come... he has NO interest in TV. But hopefully we'll find something to encourage him. He is still growing like an adorable little weed. His current loves include light switches (turning them on and off), climbing on things (chairs, the toilet, couch), saying his sister's name (he pronounces it luh-lee, and it's so precious) and holding anything from the kitchen (pots, pans, spatulas etc.). He's been walking now for a couple months and may be a rock climber some day given his love of scaling up things... a couple weeks ago I discovered if I lay our kitchen chairs on their sides, I don't have to spend the whole day asking William to not move them against the counters and climb on them.

Whelp, Happy December!

A couple months ago - but we had the most splendid Autumn here.

Cheese. Note the duck-taped left foot - we're still waiting for her wart to disappear!
