Yesterday was a beautiful Mother's Day Sunday. Since a good majority of the city holds their Sabbath day on Saturday, the BYU Jerusalem Center goes along with that tradition. On Friday night we all made a visit to the Western Wall where many of the Jewish people congregate to begin their Sabbath. There was singing and dancing and lots of beautiful praying. About a third of the Jews in Jerusalem are so-called "ultra Orthodox Jews," and the men can be distinguished by their lovely ringlet of hair by the ears and large, black hats. There's certainly a fun mix of people to see in Jerusalem!
Today we were able to visit the city of Jericho. It's one of the oldest cities in the world! We saw what is believed to be the Jericho wall from the Old Testament story and inside there was a stone tower that dates back to 8,000 B.C! Most definately the oldest structure I've ever seen. The weather felt rather hot in the old city of Jericho, but we later learned it was only in the 80's... We've surely got some toughening up to do before Egypt later this week:)
