Last week, we returned from a week long excursion through Egypt. It was quite the adventure no doubt. We began with a bus ride through Southern Israel where we stopped for the night at a Kibbutz, which is a Jewish type commune. It was extremely pleasant...we had a tour of this quaint little oasis commune in the middle of the desert. The people all share meals, incomes...the whole shabang! The next day we crossed the Israeli border and arrived in Cairo that afternoon....hello Africa!Cairo is a massive, beautiful city. The Nile running through it certainly brings a nice splotch of green to the land. We were able to visit the towering, ancient pyramids---there are over a hundred of them that have been discovered throughout the country. The biggest ones however reside in Cairo and are ginormous. I was quite surprised to crawl through the little tunnels that lead to the center where the tomb is and discover a relatively small tomb room...no mansion filled with towers of Aladdin type jewels as I'd somewhat imagined:) Our week in Egypt included lots of tombs.
The highlight of the excursion was probably the hike we took up to Mt. Sinai on our last day. We started hiking at 3am and made it up in time for the sunrise. I hadn't taken the time to sit and watch a sunrise for quite some time...definitely recommend it. It was incredible also to think we were standing near ground where Moses stood. He was a pretty amazing prophet.
A few things I learned/realized from the week:
1. Egypt is beautiful
2. Clean water is a blessing
3. If it's done really well, you can mummify your body so that even your hair is attached to your head centuries down the road...!
4. And...Camels are great sports
Whelp, that's all for this post. Wish you all peace and joy:)
